Valentin, Earhart, Klope, Clope

Famed aviator Amelia EARHART made a public visit to Marion
in 1936 or 1937, as a guest of the Marion Women's Club.
Would like to know exact date, and would like to locate
photos taken on the occasion. During her visit, she was
given a tour of the local private airport owned by Marion
aviator Fred VALENTIN and complimented him on
his "excellent airfield." Am especially interested in
locating a photo of Earhart with Valentin. Suggestions
welcome.

Also, wish to exchange data on the KLOPE or CLOPE family of
Williamson County (circa 1843-1940)with other interested
researchers. My line goes to Adam Klope (1795-after 1860)
and his son William Daniel Klope (1828-1881).

GRIFFITH, MENEES

Looking for information on the GRIFFITH family who settled
in what became known as Williamson Co., IL. Thomas and
Joseph GRIFFITH settled at Ward's Mill in 1811. Both Thomas
and Joseph were known for their hunting skills. I don't know
if Thomas and Joseph were brothers or if Joseph was the
father of Thomas. My great-greatgrandmother, Susan MENEES,
said that Thomas was a brother to the Ann GRIFFITH who
married James MENESS in Randolph Co., IL, 29 November 1810.
A bit more is known about Thomas GRIFFITH: He was a Capt.
in the 3rd Reg. during the War of 1812; he was appointed
Major on 15 June 1815. The IL census of 1818 shows him in
Franklin Co. with a family of seven. His wife's name may
have been Patsey. My greatgrandmother, Inez MENEES ROBERTS
stated in her family history, that Thomas sold his 160a to
Sterling HILL and moved to Arkansas in 1824. There is also
a chance that Thomas went to Independance, MO. Any help
with this family would be greatly appreciated.

Davis Family

Thank you. I belong to the Rootsweb Davis list, and I am
trying to help another lady. she is trying to find
something of Oliver Davis, probably Born in Tennessee in
1806. He married Annie Baker, and has found they died in
Williamson county. This seems to be all she knows at the
present time. I have tried the existing posted cemeteries,
census and the listed funeral home, but no Oliver and Annie.
I would think, that perhaps they would have been buried in
one of the old cemeteriesm perhaps no longer used. I know
there are still a lot of Davis family folks still in
Williamson county. Maybe someone who is related or knows of
this old family can help this lady. Thank you again.

Richard Bankston

In my genealogy, Hiram Bankston who married Elizabeth Tippy
in Williamson Co. in the 1840's is diffinate. My puzzle is
who's the father of Hiram Bankston. My mother Helen
Bankston and all her siblings told me it was Richard. But
there are others who think that George W. Bankston Sr. was
his father. I have contacted other family members in
Carbondale, they also say Richard was Hiram's father.
Richard Bankston came to So. Ill. in 1812 from N.C. and
bought land but never deeveloped it. He sold it to Elijah
Spiller which is just north of Marion. Maybe someone can
help. Thank You
