FERRELL FAMILY
I am researching the family name of FERRELL. Rev.
William FERRELL, his wife's name was Jaily Suzannah Dennis
BARNES- FERRELL. I am trying to find out when Jaily died, and
what is the name of the cemetery that Rev. William and Jaily
are buried in.. William died 30 March 1867.
William was a
Baptist minister. He helped founded the Baptist Church in
Marion, but I do not know the name of the church. Supposedly the
FERRELL family church was GUM SPRINGS CHURCH, that was on Section
19 of Stonefort township on the banks of Sugar Creek. Does
anyone know if these churches are still standing? Are they still
active?
Any information that anyone has on this family, or
the churches would be greatly appreciated. thanks Mrs. Norma

My Grandmother's first cousin was LESTER DEAN of Creal
Springs, Illinois. Lester Dean was in prison in Illinois for
many years on a murder charge, which I am told was related to
the Gangster era of Southern Illinois. Does anyone know of this
incident? How could I find out what happened? Thanks, Dennis

1897 in Williamson Co. to Fredonia "Agnes" Lauder (daughter of
John M. and Fredonia Arabelle (Williams, Sisney) Lauder).

Balkonis Family
April 22, 2002
I would appreciate any information
or leads relating to my father's family, the Balkonis Family,
who lived in Southern, Illinois (Benton, West Frankfort, Marion,
etc.) in the 1920s & 30s.
I am planning to visit
Southern, Illinois this year to research and (hopefully)
validate many of the events my father, Anthony Balkonis, told me
and my siblings when he recalled his childhold in Southern,
Illinois. Some of the events I would like to research relate to
Charlie Berger; Bonnie & Clyde's (lethal) visit when they
killed an officer of the law and disposed of his body &
motor cycle in an abandoned mine shaft; incarceration of my
grandmother, Josephine Balkonis, for operating a still during
prohibition; kikapo juice beverage (sp?); etc.
Thank you
in advance for your anticipate
assistance.
Sincerely, Barbara Barrett (nee Balkonis)

Watkins; Miller; Cagle; Morgan; Wright;
Leningham
I am looking for any information on Julia Leningham who
married Henry Wright in Johnson County in 1874. Julia was
born in 1845 and died in 1927.
Julia may have been
married before, and Leningham may have been her married
name.
Julia and Henry had at least one child, Minnie Wright.
They lived in New Burnside at one time.
Later Julia’ last
name at the time of her death was Miller.
Minnie married J.O.
Watkins May 1, 1892. They had three children: Lloyd, Daisy Lee
and Edna. Daisy died in 1974, and Lloyd died a few years
earlier. Edna died when she was two or three years
old.
Minnie later married Alfred Cagle, who died in 1923 or
1928.
Minnie died in 1938.
Daisy married Velvie Weaver
Morgan between 1913 and 1915. They had one daughter, Elsie
Lorrie. Daisy had no other natural children. They were divorced
between 1916 and 1917.
Velvie married again to a woman named
Marthe; Maggie or perhaps Margaret. Velvie had two other
children perhaps with Marthe, or a later spouse. These children
may have been named Annabelle and Edward. Velvie died in
1944.
Daisy later married Commodore Hazel. They divorced and
she then married John Cutrell.
Daisy and Minnie are
buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion, Illinois.
Any
information on any of these persons or their families would be
greatly appreciated.

Rex
Evans
I am looking for information pertaining to Rex Evans.
According to the 1920 Census data, he lived in Harrison
Township in Williamson County. I grew up in Marion, but I
have never heard of this place. According to the records, he
was 54 years old in 1920, and his wife, Merley, was 27 (big
difference!). They had one son at the time, Amos who was 4 (my
grandfather) and one daughter. I know that Rex worked as a
Barber in what is now Johnston City. I would appreciate any help
you could give me concerning Rex Evans or Harrison Township.

Maplewood Cem?
My uncle's death certificate (from 1940) shows that he
was buried in Maplewood Cemetery. In researching his
wife's death (my aunt) there isn't any cemetery shown on the
death certificate, but it is likely that they were
buried together. Does anyone know of this Maplewood
Cemetery, is it still active, and how I can contact
it?
