FITZGERALD / HENSHAW, late 1800s. Who were the parents of Sarah
Ellen FITZGERALD and how was she related to the HENSHAW family?
According to the 1880 census of Williamson Co, she was age 11 living
in the home of Carol Henshaw 49 and Ellen 46. Also in the home was an
8-year old, Martin Fitzgerald. This census calls Sarah Ellen "niece."
Evidently Sarah Ellen Fitzgerald married c1887 to George EMERY.
According to the 1900 census of Grayson Co, TX the George Emery family
is found living in Denison, TX. Geroge Emery is 36, Sarah Ellen is 31.
They had been married 11 years. Both of her parents were born in IL.
She was the mother of 5 children, 3 of whom were then living. Those 3 were
Guy, born Dec. 1888 in IL; Josie, born Aug. 1895 in IT (Indian Territory,
now Oklahoma); and Author (sic) born Nov. 1898 in TX. George Emery died 5
Feb. 1931 in Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. Sarah Ellen was still alive.
Family tradition says that the George Emery family & the William RICHARD
family migrated from Williamson Co. to what was then Indian
Territory. The Richard family lived there about 2 years before moving
across the Red River to Denison, Grayson Co., TX. Perhaps the Emery
family moved at the same time. Family tradition also says that the
Emery family had 4 daughters: Josie, Estelle, Amy, and Ruth, and a son Jack who
was younger than the 4 girls. My main interest is in learning if
possible just how Sarah Ellen (Fitzgerald) Emery and Emma (WHIPPLE)
Richard were related. They called themselves cousins, according to my late mother-in-law.

MASSEY and EATON, 1800s. Seeking information on
Fortner MASSEY (my gr-gr-gr grandfather). He appears in the 1850 US
Census for Williamson County at age 24 (born in TN) with Louiza J.
Massy (age 18, born IL, presumably his wife) and William J Massy (age
1). Their household also included Sarah WOOD (age 40, born VA). The
only other Massey in the county in 1850 was Drura Massy (age 60, born
NC) who also lived with Mary Massy (age 18, born TN). Fortner is also
the G F Massey listed in the 1860 US Census for Williamson County at
age 34 (born in TN), who lived with Louiza J (27, IL), Wm J (10, IL),
Jno B (9, IL), Mary A (8, IL), Elvis A (4, IL), Lorenzo D (2, IL),
Marion L (12, IL) and Mary (24, TN). According to my gr-gr uncle, the
children were William J., John Benjamin (my gr-gr grandfather), Anna,
Arch and Lorenzo Dow. According to the biography of Lorenzo Dow Massey
in the Biographical Record of Champaign County: Fortner was born in the
north of Ireland of Scotch
ancestry and settled in NC where his father engaged in merchandising
until his death. He moved to VA where he met and married Jane EATON, a
native of that state. He came to southern Illinois on a wedding trip in
1849. He preempted land in Williamson County and soon owned 500 acres.
Jane died in 1862 and Fortner died 3 years later. Fortner died when Dow
was very young and I believe he collapsed the story of at least 2
generations into one. I am betting that Drura (aka Drury) Massy is
Fortner's father. Drury Massey married Sally WOODS on 23 Oct 1818 in
Rutherford County, TN and appears is in the 1830 US Census still in
Rutherford County. The following announcement appeared on 11 Oct 1834
in the Central Monitor, Murfreesboro, TN: "Sally Massy left her husband
Drewry Massy and he advertises warning against trading with her." Also,
according to my gr-gr uncle, my gr-gr grandfather, John Benjamin
Massey, was raised by his uncle, Benjamin Eaton (presumably Jane
Eaton's brother, although
the term "uncle" was used very loosely in many families). Any
information on the Eatons would also be appreciated.

transactions, I completely lose track of them. Children (per census)
are
James, Lilla M., Anna, Mary E., and Netty. After the census, my direct

that Curtis was trampled by horses and was an invalid for the last 12

RUSSELL, late 1800s. I am searching for the birthplace of our
grandmother, Jennie RUSSELL. She was born 25 Feb 1882. Her parents were
Thomas Russell and Margaret SCOBIE Russell. She said she was born in
Braidwell, Illinois, but I have been
unable to locate any place ever named that. Our only clue is that her
father's brother always lived in Williamson County (Royalton), so it's
reasonable that she was born in this area. I think it's possible that
her pronunciation of the town may be off, as she was born of Scottish
immigrants and may have approximated their accented name of the place.

TEAGUE, born abt. 1823 in McMinn Co, TN and married 31 Jan 1847 to
widow Malinda (ELLIOTT) KELLY in
McMinn Co, TN. At the time of their marriage, Malinda had three sons by
her former marriage: Iverson G. Kelly born about 1838, John Napaleon
Bonaparte Kelly born about 1841 and James Kelly born about 1842. All 3
boys enlisted in A Co., 59th MI, Tenn. Confederate

Privates. Malinda and Joseph were the parents of 6 sons: Pleasant
McDonald Teague born 4 Aug 1848, Eli Ashbury Teague born about 1850,
William Riley Teague born 13 Mar 1852, Thomas M. Teague born
about 1854, Francis Marion Teague born 1857, and George Washington
Teague born about 1859. Joseph's and Malinda's oldest son, Pleasant
enlisted in Co. I, 3rd Regiment, East Tennessee Calvary, Union Army in
Nov. 1863, mustered in 14 Dec 1863 at Knoxville, Tennessee. After
Pleasant enlisted in the Union Army, Joseph and Malinda left East
Tennessee and moved to Williamson Co, Illinois. Pleasant was
erroneously reported to have been killed aboard the Steamer Sultana
that exploded at Cairo, IL on 24 Apr 1865 as it was returning soldiers
to the north after
the war ended. Some of Joseph's and Malinda's children moved to Fannin
Co, Texas in February 1885, eventually settling in Cooke Co, Texas.
Others stayed in Williamson County. I am not able to document assumed
parentage of Joseph as being Isaac Curry Teague and Rachael PRICE.
According to family stories, Joseph inherited part interest in a
riverboat along with some ladies named MORGAN. Would like to exchange
data with anyone with knowledge about this family. It is not known if
Joseph and Malinda Teague moved to Texas with their children or stayed

THOMAS/WILSON, late 1800s/early 1900s. I am searching for
any information on Frank THOMAS (my great-grandfather) who was born
about 1877 in southern Illinois (possibly Wolf Creek). He was
married about 1900 to Emma WILSON born about 1882 in Missouri
(Cape Girardeau?) along with her parents. I found Frank & Emma in
the 1920 census (couldn't find them in the 1910 census). They lived
in Herrin, Williamson Co., IL and Frank worked as a miner/digger in
the coal mine. They had 4 children, Dauss Ray b: 2/24/1902; Clyde
William b: 3/5/1904; Velma Lorene b: 5/2/1910 (my grandmother); &
Rose b: about 1911. It has been said that Emma
died in childbirth and the girls went to live with the Wilsons
(in southern IL?). Frank married second Pearl (Indian girl?)
and had 6 more children. I don't know if they stayed in Herrin.
Frank's father was Ora Thomas born about 1869 in Wolf
Creek, IL who was married to Marth FLY before 1894. Where is Wolf
Creek? Is Wolf Creek the same as Wolf Lake?
Ora & Martha THOMAS had 3 boys that I know of: Frank; Charles? b:
about 1870 and died in the 1930's in Florida; and Ora
Ralph b: 1882 in Wolf Creek, IL. Ora Ralph Thomas also lived in
Herrin. He married 5/29/1912 to Jettie "Inez" Inez
Hiller b: 1895 in Herrin, IL. Ora Ralph & (Jettie) Inez had 2 sons
Ralph L. b:12/2/1918 in Herrin, John Lee Laverne
"Jack" b: 12/20/1921 in Herrin. Ora Ralph was a Deputy Sheriff in
Herrin and tale has it that he shot & killed Glenn
Young (KKK) but I have heard some other versions and don't know what
is correct. The shoot-out, as I understand it, happened in front of
the European Hotel in Herrin. Ora Ralph d: 1/24/1925 in Herrin and
is buried in Herrin City Cemetery. Is there a statue of Ora Ralph
Thomas in Herrin? If anyone has any information about my
